Since the Vieux Carré was invented here a decade before the vintage carousel was installed, that’s the drink to order at the Carousel Bar. Many have been operating for more than a century and some serve signature cocktails invented in New Orleans. While many of the city’s edgier bars are now located further afield in other NOLA neighborhoods, the city’s most iconic bars are all located in the French Quarter. It’s where the Sazerac was invented in 1838 and it’s where the Tales of the Cocktail has been held held since 2002. Though relatively small, less than a square mile in size, the French Quarter is the epicenter for bars in New Orleans if not the world.
